Musings of a Newlywed Blogger – Should A Blog Change

Engaged couple

Happy Monday, Friends!

Sorry that I have been gone so long. My personal life and day job have both been really demanding and unfortunately, that has meant the blog has been neglected. Engaged Brides to be – being a newlywed is a wild ride!

This post is more about the blog than it is about weddings

Part of the reason why I have let my busy life take over from the blog is that I find myself wondering if blogging about weddings is where my heart currently lies. Don’t get me wrong – I love weddings. Always have, always will. I still feel that I have so much to share about the beautiful process that is planning a wedding. But, having been married for seven months, I find myself thinking that I have a ton of newlywed and life stories I would like to share tooShould a blogger change directions?.

So, the crux of this whole thing is that as my life changed direction from being an engaged Bride-to-Be to being a newlywed, so too might my blog!

My goal with this blog was to share my experiences, tips tricks and hacks in an upfront and honest way. Mostly because I feel that social media allows people to show their lives in the most curated way possible. People don’t talk about or share the hard stuff, the negative experiences and that breads so much insecurity. Weddings are the epitome of this. You see the beautiful bride and handsome groom smiling in their wedding pictures and you hear them laughing with joy in their wedding video. But, there is no mention of the fight about the menu or that time her mother called her a Bridezilla. So, when it happens to you, it feels wrong. It feels like you failed when really the rest of us are failing to be truthful.

I wanted to share with you today is my thoughts on changing the direction of this blog. So, please share them with me! You can vote or comment below or you could get in touch if you have a lot you want to say.

Toodles, Mish

  1. this sounds great. it must get quite frustrating in some ways to continue to blog about weddings after your own wedding

    1. Thanks for the support! It’s not frustration that has been getting to me but rather the pressure to focus only on wedding planning.

  2. I think that your life is evolving and you should certainly blog about more than just weddings if that is what’s in your heart. You’ll still come back to weddings from time to time. I see blogs evolve like this a lot. Plus your audience is growing with you! Once they are married I’m sure they’d love to see more than just articles on weddings.

    1. Thanks for the support, Theresa!

  3. I think change is always good. If you’re feeling pulled to do more newlywed stories, definitley go for it! I had thought about adding more to my blog about newlywed life, but decided ultimately, to stick with weddings.

    1. Happy to hear that it’s not just me!

  4. It would be lovely to hear about post-wedding life as well! Then, your followers would also have a reason to keep up after their own big days.

    1. Thank you Aliison – it’s a good point that I didn’t necessarily originally consider 🙂
